International standards for nitrogen measurement

Eraly & Associés designs and manufactures analyzers and accessories that meet the performance criteria of international standards for Total Nitrogen measurement in numerous compounds and products.

ASTM D4629

Standard Test Method for Trace Nitrogen in Liquid Hydrocarbons by Syringe/Inlet Oxidative Combustion and Chemiluminescence Detection.
This test method is applicable to naphthas, distillates, and oils containing 0.3 mg/kg to 100 mg/kg total nitrogen.

ASTM D5176

Standard Test Method for Total Chemically Bound Nitrogen in Water by Pyrolysis and Chemiluminescence Detection.

Total nitrogen content of water from 0.5 to 1000 mg/L....dilution for more.

ASTM D5762

Standard Test Method for Nitrogen in Liquid Hydrocarbons, Petroleum and Petroleum Products by Boat-Inlet Chemiluminescence.

Concentration range from 40 μg/g to 10 000 μg/g nitrogen.

For light hydrocarbons containing less than 100 μg/g nitrogen, Test Method D4629 can be more appropriate.

ASTM D7184

Standard Test Method for Ultra Low Nitrogen in Aromatic Hydrocarbons by Oxidative Combustion and Reduced Pressure Chemiluminescence Detection.

Concentrations up to 1.2 mg/kg. The LOD is 0.04 mg/kg N and the LOQ is 0.13 mg/kg N. For higher nitrogen concentrations refer to Test Method D4629.

ISO 11905

Water quality — Determination of nitrogen.

Part 2: Determination of bound nitrogen after oxidation and combustion to nitrogen dioxide using chemiluminescent detection.

SH/T 0657

Standard test method for trace nitrogenin liquid petroleum hydrocarbons by syringe/inlet oxidative combustion and chemiluminescence detection.

Sample with nitrogen content of 0.3mg/kg  to 100mg/kg naphtha, petroleum distillates and other oil.

UOP 971

This method is for determining total nitrogen by Chemiluminescence, in light aromatic hydrocarbons, such as benzene. It is applicable to quantitative determination of nitrogen at a level of 30 to 400 ng/g.

Samples containing more than 400 ng/g nitrogen can be analyzed according to ASTM D 4629 or D 6069.

UOP 981

Trace Nitrogen in Liquid Hydrocarbons by Oxidative Combustion with Chemiluminescence Detection.

This method is for determining nitrogen in liquid hydrocarbons at concentrations ranging from 30 to 600 ng/g (mass-ppb). It is applicable to highly volatile samples, such as pentane, through the use of a cooled sampling system.
